What it is: (from the website)
“Sample Champion is an accurate and easy to use audio measurement software. It has been designed for acoustical technicians, sound engineers, scientists and students.”
How it works:
The installation is quick and easy. The interface is not. This is the type of software that requires a read of the manual before you use it. The unfortunate side of the manual is that it only tells you what all the icons are with an indication on how to use them together but doesn’t go into any depth about analyzing the data you collect.
Therefore, this software is for the advance user that can look at impulse responses and glean information from them. For instance, Sample Champion could be valuable to audio equipment designers to test the frequency response of a new piece of equipment. The software can also test the frequency response of speakers, microphones and acoustical spaces. This is not to say that a beginner wouldn’t find anything of interest, but a rudimentary knowledge of frequency response and some acoustics would be most helpful before diving into this program.
In the lab, the program worked well and was extremely responsive. The price (roughly $400 dollars) is not cheap, but is a good value considering the price of other test programs and equipment.
